Our Approach to being Covid Secure in 2020

Throughout the Covid-19 Pandemic, we have followed the government guidance issued by the relevant Governments in each of our locations, to ensure our operations are carried out in a way to reduce the risks related to Covid-19 and to protect our colleagues and our customers.

In the following sections we have summarised how we have complied with the Five Steps to Safely Working Together.

“We have carried out a Covid-19 Risk Assessment and shared the results with the people who work here”

We have used our standard Health and Safety risk assessment process to develop individual risk assessments for each of our stores, our distribution centres and our office facilities.

The findings from our risk assessments have been communicated across the business and can be accessed through our internal communications system.

 

“We have cleaning, handwashing and hygiene procedures in line with guidance”

As a retailer, we pride ourselves on the cleanliness standards within our stores and have cleaning processes in place for all our operations. We have reviewed and further developed these to reduce risk during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In our stores, we have increased the frequency of handwashing for colleagues, we have implemented a programme of targeted cleaning of touch points and equipment at specific intervals and we have reduced the amount of touch points associated to the products we sell. We have also provided sanitiser for our shop teams and customers to use throughout our stores.

Additional, we work closely with our business partners to ensure achievement of their and our cleaning and hygiene procedures.

Within our distribution centres, we have increased handwashing facilities and frequency, we have increased the cleaning frequency for touch points and we have provided hand sanitiser for colleague use throughout the site and within delivery vehicles.

 

“We have taken all reasonable steps to help people work from home”

We’ve moved the majority of our office and support teams to homeworking through the deployment of IT hardware and software technology.

We have prohibited travel across our shop estate and logistics centres to essential visits only.

We have implemented strict entry controls in our Head Office building to ensure only essential colleagues are in the building at any one time and that access is strictly controlled.

 

“We have taken all reasonable steps to maintain a 2m distance in the workplace”

Within our stores, we have implemented a shop zoning process and reduced colleague numbers on site at any one time, we have simplified workflows, processes and reduced our range to assist in maintaining 2m distance. We have also implemented other supporting processes to assist including scheduling deliveries and completing maintenance and servicing outside of trading hours where possible.

Within our Distribution centres we have reviewed all site operations, changed workflows and operational processes, we have staggered start times for colleagues, made changes to canteen and toilet facilities.  

To support 2m distancing we have implemented floor markings and signage to remind our colleagues of the requirement and our management teams are required to ensure control in their working areas.

 

“Where people cannot be 2m apart, we have done everything practical to manage transmission risk”

Through our risk assessment protocol, we have identified and reduced the number of opportunities to work within 2m of another person to a minimum. Where this is not possible, we have implemented additional controls included provision of Personal Protective Equipment, limiting exposure time and allowing ‘back to back working’.

We’re working closely with all of our colleagues to ensure we give them the protection and support they need, acting swiftly on their feedback.
